Clocks

My little kid     is cookoo for clocks.
At Target we idle     in the timepiece aisle.
It's not enough,     and so tonight,
we're shivering     by a shopwindow,
long past closing     but lit up with clocks;
nose to glass     gawking at grandfathers.

Went to Hollywood with W---

From Metro Red Line's     movie palace,
palm-pillared vault     under Hollywood and Vine,
we strolled eight scruffy     blocks of stars;
Humphrey Bogart     to Bugs Bunny.
We saw The Sign     and finally found
(fortune smiled!)     a penny-smasher.

Crappuccino on the 5

On a Christmas drive     a crappuccino;
rest-stop favorite     on the 5 at night.

Chili Recipe

Toss ground turkey   in a pot with peppers;
always safe   to add more onions.
Grate in some greens,   broccoli's best:
covertly mixing   vitamins in.
Add chili powder   with chocolate in it,
garlic, cumin,   a can of corn,
and two of beans,   pinto and black.
Wash with red wine   and sizzle a while.
Clear the counter   but keep the wine out.

Kerzenziehen

Einmal zogen wir   Kerzen in Zürich
im Pavillionzelt   am Bürkliplatz.
Der Winter drang   kalt von draußen;
wir blieben doch   warm überm Wachs.
Ringsum klapperten   Mirages, Cobras,
und Tram 2000,   Trieb- und Beiwagen.

Nutmeg Scared Off a Raccoon

My cat confronted   a raccoon out back,
hissed and glowered   (behind glass doors).
We appreciate it,   proud calico--
firm defender   and fifteen-years friend!

An Inheritance

One of our wisest   is gone to Google,
and left me a pile   of C++.
const foo( *crap ) const;   and no frakking comments.

As Long as you're not Sleepy, Kid, We Might as Well Watch Trains

A night like summer   in November
finds us fanning   in Millbrae at midnight;
caffeinated father   and insomniac son.
Friendly waves   we trade with traincrews;
a blue-striped BART's   lady operator,
and a yellow U.P.'s   freight engineer.

Untarped

I tarped my trusty     two-wheeler
to rest un-rusting     two nights in November.
This morning's clear,     cold and crisp.
Bike a mile,     my back feels better.

Drove to Work

No time to race     to train for a ride;
so minivan     to Mountain View.
The 101     jammed and weary.
My morning commute     neither principled nor punctual--
and morning meeting     cancelled, so moot.

Test

Test post     to tell if appearing.
